![]() Usually at this point, you should be turning a profit, so the game opens up a bit from there. You won't make a ton of money for this, but you'll make a profit, and it helps the city grow. You can also check the Hardware Store - they might want to buy a resource you can get easily, like sand or lumber or gas or coal or copper, in which case, you can start that up the same time as your first water harvest. Repeat until the Farmer's Market crop demands are met. While you're waiting for that initial water harvest, use the tech tree to research the next two crops you'll want to put down. Once you have the water, put down your crops. Put down your water harvesters or water wells, and build up a supply of 6 water. I use the other two free techs to pick one crop each that's desired at that market. Typically, my "start up" for any map is picking urban roads as one of my free techs, and then, seeing what the nearby Farmer's Market wants. You can actually make pretty good money on the Farmer's Market stuff, because the investment cost is pretty low - All you need is water and to do some research into Level 1 of the tech tree for things like oranges, apples, grapes, potatoes, etc. Originally posted by Beaver:So you can't really make money off of first tier things? You NEED to start on one of the 2 towns that has an extra shop? On my large map every town just has a hardware store and farmer's market except 2 cities on the map, so I have to start near one of those 2? I thought i could make money selling my tier 1 stuff while I researched tier 2 stuff. ![]()
